If you’ve ever watched your Doodle suddenly explode into a whirlwind of energy (sprinting around the living room, spinning in circles, or zooming across the backyard) you know exactly what zoomies are all about. One second they’re chilling out or even napping, and the next, they’re racing like a furry little tornado. It’s hilarious, a little wild, and well, sometimes confusing if you’re not sure what’s going on! If you’re a new Doodle owner, you’ll want to keep reading to learn more:

In short, “zoomies” are basically your puppy’s way of shaking off all their built-up energy. After a nap, a bath, or a quiet moment, all that excitement and energy gets stored up, and zoomies are the perfect way to let it loose. Think of it like when you suddenly get the urge to dance around your kitchen for no reason at all. Puppies, especially Doodles, have so much enthusiasm and energy, and those bursts help them release it in a fun and natural way. It’s a happy, goofy expression of how thrilled they are to be alive and with you, and should make you feel proud they feel safe in your family.

Usually, these zoomies last just a few minutes and can happen anywhere: inside the house, outside in the yard, or even at the dog park. Sometimes they hit after a potty break or when you bring out a favorite toy. It’s important to remember that zoomies aren’t a sign of bad behavior. They’re a totally normal, healthy way for your pup to get some wiggles out and express their joy. When your Doodle starts zooming, the best thing to do is let them have at it, just make sure the space is safe. Clear away anything that could get knocked over or broken and let your pup burn off that energy. If you want, you can even join in and run alongside or cheer them on. Just avoid trying to stop them suddenly or scolding them. Zoomies aren’t a moment for discipline. They’re a moment for fun and freedom, and an indication of a healthy situation.

That said, their little bursts of energy don’t always happen at convenient times. If they strike right before bedtime, during family dinner, or when company’s over, you might want to help your pup channel that energy in a better way. A quick walk, a game of fetch, or a little playtime can do wonders to settle them down afterward. That way, they’ll be more ready to relax when it’s time to wind down. If you notice your Doodle is having zoomies multiple times a day or seems restless even between zoomies, it might be a sign they need more regular exercise or mental stimulation. Doodles are smart and active dogs, so they thrive on a good balance of physical activity and brain games. Try mixing in some puzzle toys, obedience training, or extra walks to keep them happily tired. Zoomies might feel a little crazy in the moment, but they’re one of the things that make life with a Doodle so much fun. It’s their way of showing just how excited and happy they are to be with you.
