One of the best gifts you can give your doodle is consistent care that goes beyond food, exercise, and love. Preventive health routines not only catch problems early but also help your pup live a longer, healthier life. While doodles are known for being hardy and playful, they do have certain needs you’ll want to keep on your radar.

Before you bring your new puppy home, we make sure they have the best start possible. Each puppy receives their appropiate vaccines (DAPPi, which covers Distemper, Adenovirus Type 2, Parainfluenza, and Parvovirus). We also give all the appropriate worming and spray the yard with Wondercide to keep their environment safe and healthy (linked below under recommendations, if you’re interested).
Puppies need to stay on a vaccination schedule to build strong immunity, while adult doodles should have yearly exams. These checkups are a chance to talk through any concerns, update vaccines, and make sure your pup is staying on track with weight and growth. Your vet can also guide you on heartworm, flea, and tick prevention, which is especially important if your doodle spends lots of time outdoors. We have also linked information on flea treatments (we believe a natural approach is good, at least when puppies are young) HERE.
Parasite prevention should be non-negotiable. Doodles love grass, water, and adventure, which means they’re often in areas where parasites thrive. A monthly preventative keeps them protected and spares you the stress of dealing with health issues that can be both serious and costly. Dental care is another area doodle owners sometimes overlook. Their happy grins hide the fact that gum disease is common in dogs. Regular brushing, dental chews, or professional cleanings can keep their teeth and gums healthy. This matters not just for their smile but for their overall health, since oral bacteria can affect the heart and other organs.
It’s also important to know when to call the vet. Sudden changes in appetite, energy levels, or bathroom habits can be early warning signs. Doodles may try to push through discomfort because they’re so eager to please, so even small changes are worth checking out. Trust your instincts, if something feels off, it’s better to make a quick call than to wait.
A thoughtful health routine gives your doodle the best chance to thrive. With regular vet care, parasite prevention, and attention to dental health, you’re setting your pup up for many joyful, healthy years by your side. At Howdy Doodles, we’ve seen just how much these simple steps can make a difference, and we’re always here to support you in giving your doodle the happiest life possible!
